The Industrial Truck Association (ITA) is headquartered in Washington, DC, USA, and is the leading organization of industrial truck manufacturers and suppliers of component parts and accessories in North America, including the United States, Canada and Mexico. For more than 60 years, ITA has been a partner to its members and an advocate for safe practices in the material handling and industrial truck industry as well as for every step of the supply chain.
A reliable expert and source of credible engineering and statistical information, ITA connects, protects and serves its industry members by being an important voice in international standards development, pushing advancements in engineering practices to promote safer product outcomes, and by providing an environment for training, learning and networking.
ITA represents 90 percent of the forklift manufacturers in the United States and Canada and includes industry manufacturers and component part suppliers throughout the USA, Canada and Mexico. Members can: connect suppliers with manufacturers, attend an annual meeting that supports new policy development, training and networking, and receive an immediate return on investment through exclusive members-only resources and service.
ITA works closely with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in many ways:
- Conduct compliance officer training seminars
- Provide workplace safety materials
- Gather data on global lift truck markets to work toward developing new international safety standards
- Defined a classification system for powered industrial trucks. Eastern Lift Truck Co. has made a user-friendly tutorial, available to view here.
- Secures revisions of the operator training regulations enforced by OSHA to provide and disseminate up-to-date important safety information
National Forklift Safety Day in the United States is held each year in June—June 9, 2020 is this year’s date. This day serves as an opportunity for the industry to raise awareness on the critical importance of training to safe practices and demonstrates the industry’s commitment to safety. Manufacturers and dealerships use the day to reflect on and recommit to following and taking safety standards and initiatives seriously; it is Eastern Lift Truck Co.’s goal to be safe 100% of the time, not just on National Forklift Safety Day.
